Canada's Condominium Magazine

Expert panel to share condo info at Fall Home Show

It would be odd for a four-day home show in Canada’s biggest city and most explosively growing condo market not to devote at least some time to the condo scene. So it is that the Toronto Fall Home Show, running at the Better Living Centre at Exhibition Place September 18–21, will once again stage the Condo Buyer’s Survival Guide: Expert Insights into Investing, Renovating and Design, on Saturday, September 20 on the main stage. The event is described as a seminar and is organized by the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD), Home Publishing Group, and the Real Estate Talk Show.

As Bryan Tuckey, CEO of BILD said in the Toronto Star, condominiums have become “the dominant housing type” in the GTA in the last decade, “so we had little doubt there would be interest among new-home buyers on this topic.” How dominant are they? According to RealNet Canada, which provides market intelligence to BILD, 60 per cent of new-home sales in the GTA are condos. There are currently 215 high-rise developments underway in the GTA, 142 of them in Toronto. That’s 54,179 new homes.

One of the experts who will share his insights on the condo market is Simon Giannini, a real estate agent and co-host of the Real Estate Talk Show (Talk Radio AM640). He will talk about current real estate market conditions and the shift from horizontal to vertical housing that has been going on in the GTA over the past eight years or so. He will also talk about investing in pre-construction and resale condos.

RenoMark renovator Brendan Charters of Eurodale Developments, will give five tips for renovating a condo and modernizing an older condo. Charters is a member of the BILD board of directors and a former BILD renovator of the year. He will also talk about why it is better to hire qualified renovators, especially RenoMark members, than to risk poor results by hiring unqualified people.

The third participant in the seminar will be celebrity designer Glen Peloso. Peloso is a columnist in the Star’s New in Homes & Condos section, the editor of Reno & Decor magazine, and a regular guest expert on CTV’s Marilyn Denis Show. Peloso will give tips on decorating a small space, including your best use of space.
