Canada's Condominium Magazine
Ontario is famous for its apple orchards, and no activity is more iconic of fall than the day-trip to an apple orchard to “pick your own.” Apple’s straight off the branch simply taste better. It is also one of the most enjoyable family activities for fall. The season runs from August to end of October. The hottest time (and busiest time) tends to be around Thanksgiving.
To help you plan, Condo.ca has put together a list of “destination orchards.” Some orchards are just that; others have multiple activities such as hayrides and corn-field mazes.
Tricks for maximizing your pick:
- always TWIST the apple rather than snap
- place your apples in your bag or basket, don’t throw (to avoid bruising)
- don’t pick any apple with bruises
- choose firm apples
- when you bring your apples home they should be stored cool (i.e. basement)
- call the orchard first (some vary hours with the weather.)
